Barry Tuckwell

Acknowledged as one of the great French horn virtuosi, Australian-Born Barry Tuckwell annually performs as many as 200 concerts throughout the world, traveling an estimated 200,000 air miles every year. Formerly principal horn and chairman of the London Symphony Orchestra and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London for ten years, he now devotes himself almost exclusively to solo appearances, recordings, and master classes at leading universities and festivals. He has recorded most of the classical horn literature and has introduced a number of new works written especially for him by leading contemporary composers. In recent years, he has extended his musical career to include conducting.

Elected president of the International Horn Society at its founding in 1970, Tuckwell has continued to serve this organization. Known for his superb musicianship and staggering virtuosity, Barry Tuckwell brings to the G. Schirmer Library of French Horn Literature a unique perspective. The Tuckwell Edition will include music of the masters and a wealth of new material never before available to students and teachers of the instrument.
