Formerly principal horn and chairman of the London Symphony Orchestra and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London for ten years, he now devotes himself almost exclusively to solo appearances, recordings, and master classes at leading universities and festivals. He has recorded most of the classical horn literature and has introduced a number of new works written especially for him by leading contemporary composers. In recent years, he has extended his musical career to include conducting.
