Bruno Ducol was born in 1949 in Annonay, France, and began his musical studies in 1970 at the Conservatoire in Lyon and later in Paris, where he studied until 1978 under such teachers as Robillard, Ballif, Messiaen, Schaeffer, and Boucourechliev. In 1977 he was awarded the Composition Prize and the following year was appointed teacher of analysis and orchestration at Rheims Conservatoire. Two years later, in 1980, he taught at the summer school at the university of Campinas in Brazil. His travels continued with two years at the Academie de France in Rome at the Villa Medici from 1981-83, and later an invitation took him to the Casa Welaquez in Madrid from 1985-1985. In 1990 he won Herve Dugardin prize awarded by the French performing rights society, the SACEM, for symphonic music; and during the years 1990-92 he was aided by a scholarship by the Fondation Beaumarchais in the Chartreuse of Villeneuve-Le-Avignon.
